Summer Solstice is the longest day of the year, the one day of the year…
New series, the Nine Virtues starting with Courage!
Sat Nam,
This week we are starting a new series on the nine virtues.
✨Courage
✨Integrity
✨Patience
✨Faith
✨Trust
✨Forgiveness
✨Gratitude
✨Compassion
✨Love
This week we will start with one of the most important virtues Courage. The word courage comes from the Latin word Cor meaning heart. To have courage comes from the heart.
Maya Angelous says: “Courage is the most important of all the virtues, because without courage you can’t practice any other virtue consistently. You can practice any virtue erratically, but nothing consistently without courage.”
I have always been drawn to people with courage whether they be real life or fictitious that believe down to every cell in their body that their cause is worth fighting for and keep going against all odds, adversity and repercussion which can sometimes be the threat of death. People like my parents, Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King, Nicholas Winton, Erin Brockovitch, and fictitious characters like Harry Potter.
Courage is not doing something without fear, it’s having the fear but doing it anyway because you know it’s the right thing. It’s taking accountability, having integrity, trusting in yourself, having faith in the unknown and stepping into the uncertainty of life every day.
It’s opening your heart knowing you may be hurt, forgiving even though you’ve been burnt, having gratitude even when life is giving you lemons, speaking the truth knowing you may be opposed, standing up for what you believe in knowing this may cost you so much of what you hold dear.
Every virtue in existence requires courage because to sit in the heart is to be vulnerable and vulnerability requires us to be brave.
Kundalini Yoga teaches us to be vulnerable, to open our hearts, to have courage to try new things, to dig deep into ourselves and face our demons, bring them up and work through them. Some of the bravest people I know are students on their mats.
Courage is the foundation of all the great things we want to achieve in life. It’s hard and there’s fear but with it you can change your world and the world you live in.
