The Rollercoaster of Life and my Stress and Vitality Workshop

Sat Nam,

One of my favourite sayings is nothing stays the same, good or bad, this too shall pass.

If I’ve learned nothing else from the last 2 plus years it’s that the only certainty I have in life is uncertainty and in order to stay steady and navigate through the rollercoaster of life I have to have a steady foundation from which to stand.

I had lunch with some dear friends yesterday who all practice Kundalini Yoga and we were talking about how remarkable this yoga is in one way or another.

For me I think of my time on the mat as my rehearsal for life.  Each session on the mat strengthens my nervous system and balances my energetic foundation.

The last few weeks for me for personal reasons have been a frightening rollercoaster.  I kept saying I want to get off but the reality is there’s no getting off it’s how steady I am whilst I ride.

The first week was so intense that I didn’t keep up with my practice and I felt myself begin to unravel.  The second week I committed to my practice and I felt myself become steadier in the chaos.

As humans we like to be in control, we like to know the what, how, when and why.  Kundalini Yoga teaches you to find peace in the chaos and let go of the need to know, the control of what you can’t control and rather take control of how you react to the unknown.

There are over 1000 Kriyas so when you turn up to a class you don’t know what you’re going to get.  Some postures go for a while others not so long, you may have to do breath work, or chant or meditate or it could be a physical class, so you have to develop patience and trust for what’s to come and allow things to unfold.

This yoga is priceless because it teaches you to let go of what you can’t control and gives you the tools to hold you steady through this crazy and amazing rollercoaster of life.
