“The attitude of gratitude is the highest form of yoga”

Sat Nam,

This week we are working on the virtue of gratitude.

Gratitude is a powerful virtue that brings you into the now.  It shows you the goodness, the blessings and all what you have in your life right now.  When you are in the present moment you are in consciousness and it frees you from the illusion and stress of past and future to just have the reality of whats good now.

Often I’ll have people say to me I have nothing to be grateful for, yet we all have something or someone to be grateful for whether that be yourself, family, friends, pets, health, work, finances, books, leisure, yoga, meditation, nature, life and the list goes on.

I start every gratitude practice with thank you for my breath, my life, my heart, my soul, my mind, my body, this planet I get to be a part of and then my list goes on from there. I read a saying from Buddha years ago that went something like, if you have nothing else to be grateful for be grateful for your breath.

Kundalini Yoga teaches you to be in the moment and to be with your breath and in this moment is where gratitude lies. Start a gratitude practice, find at least three things you’re grateful for and either write them down or say thank you out loud for them each day. Mix them up, add to them, really feel into your blessings, even the challenging ones that have helped you grow, journal what you discover and see how you feel after the 40 days.

What are you grateful for?
