Summer Solstice is the longest day of the year, the one day of the year…
The Negative Mind – it’s not a bad thing! and Winter Solstice Workshop!
Sat Nam,
This week we are working on the second body in our series and the first of the three minds, The Negative Mind.
The negative mind can be quite controversial as there are thought leaders that will say it’s not a good thing and you have to stay positive. In Kundalini Yoga we understand the negative mind is critical to your well being as it evaluates risk. It is the strongest of the three minds, is the first mind that activates when you are born and it continues to be the first mind that activates in any given situation put in front of you.
When in balance think of it like insurance that assesses risk and keeps you from throwing yourself into dangerous situations like walking in front of a car or investing in the scammer that emailed you, anything that doesn’t serve your well-being.
When out of balance on one end of the spectrum when it’s over active you will see everything as negative and unsafe and keep yourself from living your best life. On the other end when your negative mind is under active, you’ll ignore the red flags and continually put yourself into dangerous or unhealthy situations that cause you unnecessary upset and difficulties.
I have an over active negative mind which presents itself as anxiety. Prior to Kundalini yoga I couldn’t even get on a bus because my negative mind set of the fight flight panic button that this was a dangerous situation. Practicing this yoga balanced it out so it would evaluate real risk. I still get anxiety and my negative mind still takes over at times, but through my practice I am more wise to see through the illusion of danger it creates than I once was.
Breath work, strong movement especially working on the kidneys as this is where we hold a lot of fear, are all great for the negative mind. The Stress set for adrenals and kidneys is also a great Kriya to help steady this mind.
Allow the negative mind to serve you rather than you serving it and it will be a great tool in your life to hold you steady.

Winter Solstice workshop!❄️❄️❄️
Winter Solstice is the shortest day of the year and the official start of winter. As the seasons move through the cycles so do we. It is a time of reflection and it’s a time we plant the seeds we would like to blossom in spring. The Yogies say if you don’t celebrate anything else celebrate Solstice and Equinox.
I have some great news! I couldn’t find a venue for Winter Solstice and beautiful Pru has offered a space in her home at Centennial Park to have the workshop both live and online. So generous! There is only room for 8 people in person and three soots have already been booked, so please let me know asap if you would like to join live as live spots will go fast.
It will be a 2 hour workshop where we will do a beautiful Kriya to dive deep followed by a long sound and gong bath with the big 32inch gong.
“Just remember in the Winter far beneath the bitter snow,
Lies the seed that with the suns love, in the Spring becomes the Rose.”
