The heart ❤️

Sat Nam,

How’s everyone navigating sitting in the midst of this wild eclipse season and Mercury retrograde.  I don’t know about you but it’s certainly knocked me around!  The thing that’s kept me as steady as possible has been my practice.  I’ve noticed that the more I practice, the steadier I become.

This week we are working on the Heart Chakra.  The heart is where the soul resides and it gives all the other chakras meaning.  It’s also the most sensitive and can easily become unbalanced or closed due to hurt, disappointment, anger and fear.

It is the colour green and when open it is a beacon of light that is able to provide compassion recognising others in yourself.  It is giving, trusting, caring. kind, understanding and full of love.  It is also open to receiving love, support and compassion from others and is not afraid to be vulnerable and ask for help when needed.  It has to flow both ways to be balanced and open. It doesn’t strive for perfection, it knows it is perfect and we as humans are perfect in our imperfection. When allowing the heart to lead you will trust in yourself and feel peace in your decisions.

When out of balanced or closed the ego or mind leads and you may become egotistical, fearful, untrusting, judgemental, controlling, rigid, have a need for perfection in everything you do, cold, anxious, bitter, untrustworthy and at the extreme mean.

My heart broke late last year when my mum passed.  Since then I have been up and down with grief, sadness. anxiety and a fear of the future.  My practice brings me back to the moment.  Grief is the heaviest of energies and my breath opens my lungs (where grief is held), the Asanas move heavy energy through my body and the meditations help my mind stop spiralling out of control and relax. All of this movement and breath helps to move the heavy energy of armour that I’ve place around my heart to protect me from pain. If there’s one thing I’ve learned this armour doesn’t serve me, it stops me from connecting to the flow of the universe and as Leonard Cohen sings in his song Anthem;

‘Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack, a crack in everything
That’s how the light gets in’

This week we will work on a beautiful kriya to calm and open the heart.

It is so important to keep your heart open and listen to its voice.  Your heart loves you and only wants the best for you.  It is your best friend. ❤️
