Summer Solstice is the longest day of the year, the one day of the year…
Honouring the Space
Sat Nam,
Wow, we are already moving into December this week! How quick this year has gone!
December is probably one of our most hectic months as we head toward Christmas and all the gift buying and preparations that Christmas involve, start of school holidays, organising holidays, end of year parties, tying up everything at work, Christmas Day and all the food and drink, planning new year etc etc etc and all while looking forward to down time but not taking any!! Phew I’m exhausted just writing that!
In yoga I talk a lot about the space between the pose and about honouring that space. If in a Kriya we just moved from one posture to the next, one, the Kriya would become exhausting and two, we won’t have integrated the lessons of each posture properly.
It’s the same with life. If we move from one event to the next without a break we will become exhausted and we won’t learn what each event is there to teach us.
The Universe provides space in the experiences it throws at us so why don’t we provide ourselves with space?
Think about being in labour, the labour pains come with space in between. The minute or so apart may not feel like much but it is space. Grief is so raw and painful but there is time throughout where there is peace, happiness and even laughter, this is space from the pain. Even religion gives us the Sabbath the day of rest every week so we can stop, rest and integrate ready for the next week ahead.
Honouring the space is so important both on the mat and in life. It allows you to rest, integrate and reboot for the next thing because there is always something around the corner.
So If you are someone that moves from one event, to do list, task, posture to the next, says you have no time to rest, take the time to stop and assess how this is affecting your mind, body, energy and health.
Kundalini Yoga is a great way to take space in your day. It forces you to stop, put away your phone and just be with yourself on the mat. Get to a class at least once a week, but the optimum is at least three times. I know how out of sync I get when I forgo my yoga due to no time, can’t be bothered, I don’t want to, resistance to being on the mat or what ever excuse my ego comes up with.
So go to yoga, stop and smell the roses, listen to music, be with nature, sit with your stillness and allow yourself to the time to rest, integrate and learn about you.
Its critical for your well-being snd it’s one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself.
