The Negative Mind – It’s a good thing!

This week we embark on the second body in our series, the negative mind. 

Contrary to popular belief the negative mind is a good thing and plays an important part in our well being. 

Think of the negative mind like an insurance policy, it assesses risk and when in balance protects you from unnecessary danger.  

It’s the strongest of the three minds and the first mind that activates in any situation. It’s also the first mind that activates when you are born.  As you pop your head out you evaluate the risk of your new world and how you will be taken care of.

This is the mind that will warn you to check for cars when you cross the road, not walk too close to the edge of the cliff or invest in the scammer that contacts you on email. 

When out of balance on one end of the spectrum you will be unruly, take unnecessary risks and get yourself into trouble and danger.  On the other end of the spectrum you will be overly fearful, too precautious, overly worried and avoid living or super paranoid and suspicious of everything and everyone. 

My negative mind was out of balance for years when I suffered greatly from a panic attack disorder and I couldn’t even get on a bus.  These days I’m aware of when it starts to rule the roost and I will up my yoga to balance it out.  

Kundalini Yoga is great for balancing the negative mind.  It provides you with challenging experiences on the mat and allows you to observe your self talk and how you deal with the situation.  If you don’t like how you respond you can change it on the mat so you can learn to change your response in life. 

As I always say change your pattern on the mat, you’ll change your pattern in life.
