What you resists persists..

Sat Nam,

How’s everyone feeling after that beautiful Equinox this week!  My energy is blossoming!

This week I want to talk about resistance.  I’ve had an issue that was bugging me for ages.  Every time I thought about it I would feel my body tighten up and become rigid.  I would find myself talking about it often to whom ever would listen without doing anything about it.  I was resistant of change and I couldn’t see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Over the past couple of months I’ve let it go, got on with what I was doing , said yes to opportunities that would help me move away from this issue and what I’ve noticed is so many good things are flowing into my life.  I’ve also noticed that my body and attitude is way more relaxed.

Resistance comes from fear and it causes blocks in the flow of your energy.  When you continuously resist a situation or problem that is niggling at you and you keep putting it under the carpet your body physically tightens.  The more rigid you are the less room in your body your energy has to flow which creates less room for what you want to flow in.  Your vision also becomes impaired through fear and you may miss opportunities the universe presents to help you through your situation.

Kundalini Yoga is a great tool to help you understand resistance.  I know when I resist a posture it becomes more difficult, my body tightens, time seems to go forever and and I either struggle through it or just give up before the magic happens (which can create more resistance).

The moment I surrender to the posture whilst in the posture suddenly there’s an ease to it as time flies and I forget I’ve been holding my arms up or lifting my legs up for a number of minutes.

Whether on your mat or in life resistance causes the same struggle and until you can overcome it the Universe will keep presenting you with the same scenario and so the merry go round of suffering keeps turning though not so merry!

Here’s a great test for your resistance, try holding your arms up in a V for victory palms facing inward and just open and close your fingers back and forth to your hand for 3 minutes and observe what comes up.

Be aware of your self talk and how it may be similar to the self talk that comes up when you’re challenged in life.

This exercise is great to help you master your mind rather than your mind mastering you.  Once 3 minutes becomes easy take it up to 5 minutes.  Keep challenging your mind and ego, because the one thing the ego loves is complacence, it’s how it inadvertently takes control.

So what are you resisting right now and how would your life change if you surrendered to it and allowed yourself to flow?
