Mercury Retrograde and the Naval Chakra

Sat Nam,

Happy Mercury Retrograde!  (Though for all the havoc it causes some may not be so happy! Lol)

Mercury is the planet that rules communication and in this day and age technology so when it goes retrograde so much can go haywire.  Conversations, technology, deals and contracts we need to sign.  As it’s in Cancer there will be a strong  focus on communication in relationships and family matters.

It’s a good time to avoid starting any new ventures, signing contracts, heavy conversations and travelling as they have a higher possibility of going pear shaped.

A good example of this is last night, in the shadow of this energy I went to the movies and when we left the whole car park system was down causing line ups and agitated people wanting to get home.

It’s also so important to stay committed to your personal practice at this time  to stay grounded, as in the chaos it’s tempting to forgo this.

And it’s also the perfect time to be working on the Third Chakra in our series, the Navel Chakra also known as Manipura, as this Chakra’s powerful energy will help you stay centred and grounded.

The third chakra is the colour yellow and is represented by the mountain goat because of it’s endurance.  It’s our energy centre and the source of our Kundalini energy that fires us up and gives us our motivation, endurance, confidence and commitment.  It’s located in the exact centre of our bodies and you can feel its pulse around the belly button.

When we were in the womb we were connected to our mothers through our umbilical cords and she fed us our energy. Once the cord is cut it is up to us to energise ourselves. Remember the ad with the Eveready Bunny? He would wind right down when depleted of energy. Well if we don’t keep replenishing our navel chakra energy we do the same.  I liken it to my battery pack or generator and through healthy nutrition, exercise and rest it is rejuvenated.

The mantra for this chakra is Har meaning the creative seed.  When you are feeling wobbly or not standing in your power chant this mantra.  A great version is Tantric Har by Guru Prem Singh that you can download from iTunes.

A great posture for adjusting this chakra is stretch pose.  Lie on your back lifting both legs six inches of the ground, ties pointed.  Lift your head and lift both arms straight out to the side, eyes open focussed on your toes and start a strong breath of fire.

Go to Soul Flow Yoga Facebook page around 7.00pm Sydney time tonight and Yogi Maya and myself will be talking about this chakra, the mantra Har and demonstrating Stretch Pose in a live video that we’ll save to the page.

Most teachers will be teaching about the Naval in their Kundalini Classes at Soul Flow Yoga.
