Summer Solstice is the longest day of the year, the one day of the year…
The 2nd Body in our Ten Body Series, the Negative Mind
Sat Nam,
This week we are working on the Negative Mind, my personal nemesis. All my life I’ve suffered from anxiety and because of this, the Negative Mind will go into overdrive sharing with me all the “what ifs” and illuminating all the bad things that could happen. Eeyor the donkey in Winnie the Pooh is a perfect example of an unbalanced Negative Mind always looking at the doom and gloom.
The thing is we need the Negative Mind, it’s what’s stops up walking out onto the road without looking, stepping off a cliff, going on a boat trip without taking a life jacket and when balanced it is our guardian. When unbalanced we take unnecessary and dangerous risks or never leave the house for fear of getting hurt.
When I work through a Kriya it’s the Negative Mind that tells me this is too hard, it hurts you have to stop, what the point of this posture and it’s by recognising it’s self talk and working through the posture despite what the Negative Mind is telling me, that I learn to control it rather than it controlling me.
Next time your on the mat have a listen to your self talk and see how the Negative Mind presents itself for you.
For more great info on the the Negative Mind, check out Spirit Voyage or 3HO’s websites.
I’ll be away at the teachers forum this week, so my Tuesday 7.15pm class with be covered.
