Summer Solstice is the longest day of the year, the one day of the year…
The Truth will set you free
Sat Nam,
This week we focus on Honesty and Integrity.
The truth will set you free, isn’t that what they say. Well I think there’s great merit in this saying, as I believe living our truth is how we become free.
Over the past years I didn’t really live my truth. I was a bit of a people pleaser, I would avoid speaking my truth in order to avoid confrontation and this sometimes created confrontation. I felt like I didn’t belong so I would try to fit in to the detriment of myself. What resulted were difficult relationships, binge drinking and for me an anxiety and panic attack disorder. I didn’t know myself and this came down to who I associated with, how I lived and even how I dressed. I just wasn’t comfortable in my own skin because I didn’t know me. As I got older I started to know myself and when I began practicing Kundalini Yoga and learning the teachings this is when my truth really began to shine and the anxiety fade.
Authentic Truth comes from the soul not the ego. It doesn’t judge, it’s a quiet confirmation, not a loud justification. In order to live our lives with honesty and integrity, we must be authentic living our soul’s truth. In Kundalini Yoga we use the mantra Sat Nam, which means truth is my name. We greet each other, chant and close a class with this mantra. We are essentially saying our authenticity is our identity, this is who we are.
Having integrity is being honest and living by our values and when we are living as our authentic selves we automatically display our truth and integrity to others.
Kundalini Yoga forces us to be authentic cause there’s no faking a weird breath or a difficult pose. When practicing Kundalini Yoga there is often a battle with the ego and the soul. The soul challenges the ego (which tells us we can’t do this, this is silly, too hard, too weird, too confronting) and speaks our truth as to how far we can challenge ourselves, when we need to rest, and in the stillness between the pose or in meditation, our truth of who we are, what we are capable of and our connection to ourselves and everything around us. The more we practice our truth through Kriyas and meditations, the more the ego is stripped away leaving our authentic selves.
What is your soul’s truth and are you living it?
