Waking up with a thank you ?

I’ve been thinking allot about gratitude lately after watching Wayne Dyer’s the Shift. The movie starts with him waking at 3am, putting his slippers on and before he stands saying thank you, thank you, thank you with such reference and gratitude.
When I wake as I open my eyes my first thought is what time is it and as my phone is my clock I reach for it, turn it on and more often than not get sucked into the vortex of social media, before I go for my walk and meditate. I’ve felt for sometime this is not a healthy start to my day but it had become a habit.
As the Universe does, when I have a realisation I then see it being confirmed all around me. A couple of weeks after I watched the Shift, Sat Siri one of our amazing Kundalini yoga teachers based in the US put up a post on how she says thank you for 5 things as soon as she wakes. I love this!
Yogi Bhajan says “The attitude of gratitude is the highest form of yoga”. Gratitude connects us to divine love and our source of being. It keeps us in the present moment of abundance. I’ve had people in my life who have said I have nothing to be grateful for. I have had very low points in my life, but I’ve always found something to be grateful for, even if it’s just to say thanks for my breath of life. Try it each morning. Make your first thought a thought of thanks and if you can’t make it your first thought catch yourself mid thought and change that thought to a thank you. Eventually with practice this will become a natural response upon waking and a healthy habit that will set the tone of your day.
