Summer Solstice is the longest day of the year, the one day of the year…
Finding time for ‘me time’
Sat Nam,
I often hear people say things will be right once they get through this issue or finish that project or get past some drama. Here’s the thing life doesn’t stop when one issue ends as there’s bound to be another one just round the corner, whether it be caring for a loved one, finishing a work project, dealing with illness, building a business, housework, driving kids to all their extra curriculum activities, dealing with difficult family members, finding a partner, having kids, paying of debts, finding a job and the list goes on.
The trick is to manage time so we can fit ‘me time’ into our mix of life. ‘Me time’ is essential for well being. It allows our physical, mental and conscious bodies to regroup, relax and stay balanced. Like in yoga when we sit in stillness between an exercise, it allows us to recalibrate and integrate what we’ve just faced.
I have heard myself, friends, family, students and colleagues say they have no time for ‘me time’ and have watched as we head to a place where our bodies give us no choice but to stop by bringing sickness, exhaustion or mental health issues.
I found it was hard to naturally slot ‘me time’ into my life which for me was walking, meditation and yoga, so I started by diarising my commitment to a certain amount of times per week. I found after a while, it became part of my routine and no matter what issues arose, unless dire, I managed to stick to my commitment.
Whatever ‘me time’ I s for you commit to making time for it. Instead of making life more hectic, you may find it helps deal with the hectic.
What do you do for ‘me time’and how do you ensure you commit to it?
